Recent Paintings

The imagery in the new paintings are based on still lives of torn, crumbled, and stapled photographs that were shot by the artist originally, an approach to composition that the artist began in 2005. The original photographs are images of the artist, family, friends, and various events during his travels. The reconfigured images are meant to push the boundaries of the body and identity. The use of watercolor on canvas emphasizes the ephemeral qualities of photographs, memories, life's tragic events, and even of art. The watercolor technique is a shift from the artist's use of oils and more precise brushstrokes. The works explore the intersections of painting, photography, sculpture, and digital imaging.
