2005-2006 Paintings

The imagery in these paintings are based on still lives of torn and crumbled photographs that were shot by the artist originally. The original photographs are images of the artist, family, friends, and various events during his travels. Many of the settings are at other museums and institutions that involve "display," which relate to the artist being a curator. The reconfigured images are meant to push the boundaries of the body and identity. The crumpled photos function as a kind of a hand-made morphing, opposite of digital imaging technology. The works explore the intersections of painting, photography, and sculpture. They are painted in oil and alkyd with a high precision and attention to detail.
